Policy plan

Stichting Balsewa was founded in order to raise funds for the second phase of the Aamaghar project in Pumdi Bhumdi, Nepal. On completion of the preparations, a raft of initiatives was launched to raise funds.

  • a. Fundraising
Through the Board members’ networks, initiatives will be taken to encourage individuals and companies to make gifts, donations and other contributions. Several events will be set up. The larger ones, such as charity dinners, auctions and sponsored runs, will be organised by the Board and a team of volunteers. In addition, Board members will explore opportunities for individual events in their own companies and networks.
  • An event will be organised to generate a stable income flow, based on fixed monthly contributions from donors. At a slightly later stage the Board members will approach companies in their networks and ask them make donations in either cash or kind to meet the needs of the Aamaghar school.
  • b. Fund management
The treasurer manages the funds on behalf of the foundation. He reports on his management during Board meetings. The Chairman and the Treasurer have signing powers for the bank account.
  • c. Use of the funds
The funds will be applied to finance the cost of constructing the second school building on the site. This building will be the main premises of the Aamaghar school. The existing building built using funds raised through other events will then be refurbished and redesigned to accommodate classrooms for a select group of vocational training courses, a small group of children with disabilities and space to give their mothers the means to provide for themselves.
In addition to the construction costs, Balsewa wishes to raise funds to cover the running costs for a period of at least three years in anticipation of the school becoming self-supporting.

Financial accountability

To date, the foundation has been erecting the framework needed to raise the required funds. It has appointed Board members with the requisite expertise and networks, developed the website and worked out a plan and budget for phase 2 in cooperation with its partner NGOs: Friends of Nepali Villages, Nepal Development Academy and Light of Life. The costs incurred so far have been for the foundation’s own account. Board members receive no remuneration for their work.
